Speechreading and Coping Skills Courses
Speechreading is an experience designed to improve overall communication and daily life. Although it can be referred to as "reading lips" the process actually involves using many other cues than just the movement of the mouth. It takes practice, but it can be very rewarding.
Visual discrimination is very Important. Close attention is paid during training to how sounds are formed on the lips. Clues from context are also used to tell the difference between words that may look very similar or may have sounds that are not formed on the lips.
This communication and coping program is designed to help Hard of Hearing Adults develop speechreading skills they can use with confidence at home, at work, or during leisure time.
