School Presentations
Did you know that the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association- Newfoundland and Labrador has a Speakers' Bureau for hearing loss issues? This is an excellent opportunity for schools to supplement the curriculum by having a guest speaker conduct presentations on hearing loss and the ear to students.

Why is Awareness Important?
Over three million Canadians suffer from some form of hearing loss, which is quickly becoming the number one disability in the country. While seniors make up the largest percentage of those with hearing loss, the gap is closing. On average, those between 14 and 20 years of age spend more than three hours/day listening to music, often at levels that reach up to 100 db. (Levels over 85 db are hazardous to your hearing.) As a result of this and other hazardous factors, more and more young people are encountering hearing problems. This makes education on preventing hearing loss crucial.
Therefore, as part of our association's ongoing education program we are pleased to offer presentations to schools throughout the province. While presentations can be adjusted to any grade, we believe it is best to focus on Elementary levels, as some of the grades have a unit on sound and hearing as a part of the curriculum.
