2007 Branch Activity Archive
Immediately after the formation of the branch, CHHA brochures were placed in various locations around town and an advertisement was put on the local newspaper to notify the public of our meetings. We plan to meet once a month (usually the first Monday of each month) at 7 pm at the Friendship Centre who kindly is letting us use their conference room for free.
On April 27, 2007 Cyril sent a letter to the Goose Bay Airport Corporation offering suggestions on how to make the airport more accessible to the hard of hearing patrons. A reply was received on the same day and on June 5, Cyril, Dave, and Fred met with members of the Goose Bay Airport Corporation. We were informed that the airport will be renovated in two years time and every effort will be made to make it more accessible for those who are hard of hearing. We left the meeting feeling very positive that they would do their best. In the meantime, we found out that all the phones have volume control and the signage is adequate.
Cyril attended the CHHA conference in Edmonton on May 23-27, 2007. At the conference, he was presented with a plaque signifying the branch formation. For pictures and articles, see the August 2007 edition of Listen magazine (CHHA National) and the Spring/Summer edition of Sound Waves.

On June 6, 2007 Cyril sent a potential article to the editor of the Labradorian along with a request to do a weekly column. The editor thought that a monthly column would be more appropriate. So far, Cyril’s column entitled Hearing Matters has appeared in the June 18, July 16, and August 27 issues. The July and August columns are online if you wish to read them. Go to www.thelabradorian.ca and click on the past issues link.

On June 25, 2007 the branch sent a letter to the base commander of 5 Wing Goose Bay requesting office space. Hopefully he will comply and we can have an office in which to hold meetings and house our books, materials, etc.
On July 2, 2007 the branch held it’s monthly meeting. It was decided that the Meniere’s support group would meet with us instead of meeting separately. We decided not to meet in August since most members would be out of town. The next meeting is scheduled for September 10.

hospital’s director, Boyd Rowe replied the same day explaining what they were
doing about this situation.
On September 12, 2007 our branch donated $100 to the Labrador Friendship
Center’s School Supplies Drive. It was our way of saying thanks for letting us

cause. A photo appeared in the Labradorian.

area.
On November 21, 2007 Cyril sent thank-you letters to Air Labrador and MHA
