Coping with Tinnitus
Many people report feelings of nervousness, tension, anxiety and depression when experiencing Tinnitus. While there is no known cure, some find these suggestions helpful.

- Avoid exposure to loud noises. Loud noise not only damages one's hearing but it can also worsen tinnitus; noise can even produce the onset of tinnitus.
- Reduce and learn to cope with stress.
- Relaxation exercises.
- Reduce salt intake.
- Avoid caffeine, nicotine and other stimulants.
- Masking - a special device called a tinnitus masker which looks similar to a hearing aid is used to match the sound of the tinnitus with another sound of the same frequency and is designed to "drown out" the sound of the tinnitus.
- Self-help groups - Self-help groups have been known to do wonders. It is comforting to meet others, share experiences and coping methods.
- Nutrition - a well-balanced diet is most important.
- Positive thinking and a positive attitude.
