Do's and Don'ts of Hearing Aids

Do’s

  1. Treat your hearing aid as the valuable piece of equipment it is.
  2. Remove your hearing aid before bathing or swimming.
  3. Remove the battery or open the battery door when you take off the hear ing aid at night.
  4. Remove the battery if you are not going to use the hearing aid for an extended period of time.
  5. Remove your hearing aid when you are fixing your hair, particularly if you use hair spray.
  6. Clean your hearing aid with a dry cloth every night before going to bed.
  7. Keep your ear mold free from wax.
  8. Remove your hearing aid if you are going to be exposed to excessive heat.
  9. Turn off your aid before putting it on or taking it off.
  10. Call the technician if you are having problems.

Don'ts

  1. Drop your hearing aid on a hard surface.
  2. Let your hearing aid get wet.
  3. Expose your hearing aid to extreme heat.
  4. Use hair spray when you are wearing your aid.
  5. Leave your hearing aid where it can be picked up by small children or animals.
  6. Leave new or used batteries where children can reach them - they are deadly if swallowed.
  7. Attempt to repair your hearing aid yourself.
  8. Take off or put on your hearing aid with the switch in the "on" position.
