Cochlear Implant Support Group

History

The Cochlear Implant (CI) Support Group was founded in February 2006 for adult cochlear implant recipients and parents of children with CI’s.  A parent group had gathered monthly since the summer of 2005 to support each other and to resolve common issues.  The group became affiliated with CHHA-NL in February.  It was found that research and technological advances, equipment issues and information specific to living with a cochlear implant were unique topics best shared in discussion with those most closely involved.  During initial social gatherings and play dates, it became evident that this group could provide a means for advocacy.  Parents voiced that loaner speech processors must be readily available so that no child went without a device during repairs or replacement orders.  Together with CHHA-NL, this goal will be achieved.

This newly formed group aims to facilitate the sharing of information, advocacy, and emotional support among its’ members.
